About Port Aransas, Texas
Port Aransas, Texas is a city right outside of Corpus Christi, north of Padre Island, surrounded by the Gulf of Mexico, Corpus Christi Ship Channel and the Corpus Christi Bay. Port Aransas is the only established town on Mustang Island with a population around 3,480 people.
Mustang Island was known as “Wild Horse Island” by a small fishing village of Europeans who later called the island Mustang Island.
In the early 19th century, Port Aransas was a location of pirates. Captain Jean Lafitte and his crew spent time on the Texas coast. The rumor is that Jean Lafitte and other pirates made Port Aransas their camp and hid their treasure around the island.
Port Aransas is now a fishing, beach, resort village that loves Winter Texans who escape from the north and come to the coast for months on end.
