1. Texas SandFest
Texas SandFest is one of the biggest annual events in Port Aransas. It brings master sand sculptors, food vendors, live music, and a lot of foot traffic to the beach every April.
What Can You Do at SandFest?
Most people come for the main attraction: the sand sculptures. The scale and detail are impressive. It’s easy to lose track of time while viewing the finished pieces. Beyond that, there is usually live music, shopping, and family-friendly activity areas, including Lesson Mountain for kids. 2. Port Aransas Beach
Port Aransas Beach is the main reason many people visit Port Aransas. The town has about 18 miles of shoreline, and it is easy to spend a full day here without feeling like you need a backup plan.
How to Spend a Day on the Beach

- Pack chairs, towels, and shade if you plan to stay a while
- Keep lunch simple or head into town for a break
The Best Spots to Set Up Your Towel
This really depends on what you want. If you want easier access and more activity nearby, the area around Horace Caldwell Pier is a popular choice. If you want more room to spread out, drive farther down the beach and find a quieter stretch. If you plan to take a vehicle onto the beach, you will need a beach parking permit, which costs $12 and is valid through the end of the calendar year.
3. Port Aransas Nature Preserve
The Port Aransas Nature Preserve is a good change of pace if you want something quieter than the beach. It includes several sites, but Charlie’s Pasture is the one most visitors hear about first. The preserve includes 1,217 acres of upland, tidal flat, marsh, wooded, and estuarine habitat.
Spot Beautiful Birds and Local Wildlife
This is one of the better spots in town for birding and wildlife watching. Depending on the time of year, you may see shorebirds, wading birds, and other coastal wildlife moving through the preserve. It is a good stop if you want something outdoors that feels slower and less crowded than the beach.
Walk the Trails at Your Own Pace
Charlie’s Pasture works well because you can spend as little or as much time there as you want. You do not need to turn it into a whole-day outing. Walk part of the trail, stop for photos, and head back when you are done.
4. Fishing on the Pier
If you want a classic Port Aransas activity, go fish from the pier. Horace Caldwell Pier is one of the best-known public spots in town and a good option for visitors who want to try fishing without booking a boat.

If you want to get farther out, Port Aransas has no shortage of charter options. A charter makes more sense if you are serious about fishing or want the full on-the-water experience instead of a casual couple of hours off the pier. Plus, there is nothing like a guided tour to reel in your best catch yet. 5. The UT Marine Science Institute
The UT Marine Science Institute is one of the easiest family-friendly stops in town. Their Patton Center for Marine Science Education is free to visit and provides interactive marine exhibits, multiple walking trails, and guided learning for all ages.

What You Will Find Inside
The Patton Center includes eight large aquaria, interactive exhibits, and displays about local marine life and coastal research. There is also the Estuary Explorium, which adds more hands-on elements for visitors. If you want to learn something while still keeping the outing easy, this is a good stop.
A Fun Stop for Both Kids and Adults
The Patton Center is popular with people of all ages. Kids get aquariums and interactive displays. Adults get a better understanding of the local marine environment and what is happening offshore and in the estuaries around Port Aransas. It is one of the better rainy-day or midday break options in town.
