Texas SandFest | April

Texas SandFest is one of the most iconic spring events in Port Aransas and a major reason travelers flock to the island each April. Known as the largest native-sand sculpture competition in the country, this sandcastle festival in Port Aransas transforms the beach into an open-air gallery filled with towering, intricately carved sand creations.

Professional master sculptors from around the world descend on Port Aransas to compete, creating jaw-dropping works of art using nothing but sand, water, and imagination. The result is a collection of massive sculptures that range from whimsical and playful to incredibly detailed and dramatic. Walking through the sculpture field feels like stepping into another world, where every turn reveals a new masterpiece.

Beyond the sculptures themselves, Texas SandFest offers a lively festival atmosphere. Live music stages provide a steady soundtrack throughout the day, featuring a mix of local and regional performers. Food vendors line the event area, serving everything from classic festival fare to coastal favorites and sweet treats. Cold drinks, beachy cocktails, and shaded seating areas make it easy to settle in and enjoy the scene.

Families love Texas SandFest because there is plenty for kids to enjoy, including hands-on sand sculpting lessons, interactive activities, and open beach space for play. Couples and groups appreciate the relaxed pace, the photo opportunities, and the chance to wander at their own speed.

Because the event takes place directly on the beach, it pairs perfectly with a spring beach getaway. You can spend part of the day exploring the sculptures and listening to music, then head back to your rental to relax, cool off, or enjoy sunset views. Texas SandFest captures everything people love about Port Aransas in one weekend: creativity, community, sunshine, and seaside fun.

A whooping crane in water

Whooping Crane Festival | February

Early spring in Port Aransas brings a different kind of celebration, one centered on nature, conservation, and the return of one of North America’s most remarkable birds. The Whooping Crane Festival honors the annual presence of endangered whooping cranes that migrate to the Texas coast for the winter.

This festival attracts birders, photographers, wildlife enthusiasts, and curious travelers who want to experience the region’s natural beauty up close. A major highlight of the festival is guided boat tours that take guests into coastal waters and wildlife-rich areas where whooping cranes and other bird species are commonly spotted. Seeing these massive, graceful birds in their natural habitat is an unforgettable experience.

In addition to boat tours, the festival often includes photography workshops, educational presentations, and talks led by wildlife experts. These sessions provide insight into whooping crane behavior, conservation efforts, and the unique ecosystems that make the Texas coast such an important wintering ground.

What makes the Whooping Crane Festival especially appealing is its slower, more peaceful pace. It is perfect for travelers who enjoy outdoor exploration, scenic views, and meaningful experiences that connect them to nature. Many attendees combine festival activities with beach walks, nature trail hikes, and visits to nearby preserves.

February weather in Port Aransas is typically mild and comfortable, making it an excellent time to explore without the heavier crowds of later spring. For couples seeking a quieter getaway or travelers who love wildlife and photography, the Whooping Crane Festival offers a beautiful way to experience a different side of the island.

Spring Kite Fly | May

May brings bright colors, ocean breezes, and family-friendly fun to Port Aransas with the annual Spring Kite Fly. This cheerful beach event celebrates the simple joy of kite flying while turning the shoreline into a rainbow-filled spectacle.

Throughout the day, the sky fills with kites of every shape and size. From classic diamond kites to giant novelty designs, watching them dance above the Gulf is mesmerizing. Many attendees bring their own kites to fly, while others come simply to watch and enjoy the atmosphere.

The Spring Kite Fly is especially popular with families. Kids love running across the sand with kites in hand, while parents appreciate the relaxed environment and open space. The event often includes additional beach activities, casual food options, and plenty of room to spread out and enjoy the sunshine.

Because it takes place directly on the beach, it is easy to combine the kite festival with a full beach day. Guests can set up chairs, bring coolers, and spend hours soaking up the coastal vibe. It is also a great photo opportunity, with colorful kites set against blue skies and turquoise water. May in Port Aransas offers warm weather without the peak summer heat, making it a beautiful time for outdoor festivals. The Spring Kite Fly captures the playful, laid-back spirit of the island and is a wonderful addition to any spring itinerary.

Spring Break in Port Aransas | March

Spring Break in Port Aransas is less about one single event and more about a full month of energy, entertainment, and island-wide fun. Throughout March, the town comes alive with a rotating lineup of activities, live music, themed nights at local venues, beach games, and special happenings designed to welcome spring travelers.

For families, Spring Break means beach days, dolphin tours, fishing excursions, and plenty of casual dining options that cater to all ages. Many local businesses offer kid-friendly specials and activities, making it easy to keep everyone entertained.

For groups of friends and couples, Spring Break brings live bands, outdoor patios buzzing with conversation, and a festive atmosphere that feels social without being overwhelming. Port Aransas maintains a more relaxed vibe than many Spring Break destinations, which makes it appealing for travelers who want fun without chaos.

Water activities are a big part of Spring Break on the island. Jet skiing, parasailing, kayaking, paddleboarding, and boating are all popular this time of year. The weather is warm enough to enjoy the water, yet still comfortable for long days outdoors. Dining and nightlife also shine during Spring Break. Restaurants often feature extended hours, special menus, and live entertainment. Whether you prefer a laid-back seafood spot or a lively beachfront bar, there is something for every taste.

Spring Break in Port Aransas offers flexibility. You can fill your days with activity or keep things simple with beach lounging and sunset walks. That freedom is what makes it such a popular spring travel choice. Our Spring Break rentals in Port Aransas offer the perfect home base to enjoy all of the festivities.

Smart Spring Break Planning

Spring Break in Port Aransas is an exciting time to visit, but a little planning goes a long way toward making your trip smooth and stress-free. One of the best tips is to arrive early, especially if you plan to spend time on the beach or explore popular areas around town. Parking and beach access points can fill up quickly during busy Spring Break weekends, so getting an early start helps you secure a good spot and settle in before crowds build.

It is also a good idea to stay up to date on local beach rules before you arrive. March can bring specific regulations related to driving on the beach, open fires, or other seasonal restrictions, and checking these ahead of time helps you avoid surprises once you are on island time. Weather in March is generally warm and comfortable, but coastal breezes are common, so packing with wind in mind can make a big difference in your comfort.

Lightweight jackets or hoodies are great for evenings, and clips or sand anchors are helpful for keeping beach blankets and towels in place on breezier days. If your Spring Break plans include dolphin tours, fishing charters, parasailing, or boat rentals, reserving these experiences in advance is highly recommended. Demand increases during this time of year, and booking early gives you better availability and more flexibility with scheduling, so you can focus on relaxing and enjoying every moment in Port Aransas.

Winter in Port Aransas

Winter in Port Aransas is a quiet time of year, and although you won’t swim, the peaceful beaches will bring you joy. Strolling on white sand beaches as the sun rises and sets is a must, of course, and if you can fit in a few moonlight strolls, all the better.

The Whooping Crane Festival comes to town in late February, the 19th through the 22nd in 2026, and bird watchers from all over the world flock to our doorstep to partake in the festival and to explore all the birds that are here for winter vacation before heading back home in the warmer months.

The chilly weather may have you seeking heartier comfort food when it is time to dine, and the Crazy Cajun, located at 303 Beach Street, offers a good old-fashioned shrimp boil that sticks to your ribs and heats you from the inside out!

Spring in Port Aransas

A spring journey to Port Aransas offers all kinds of benefits, making it one of the most popular seasons in which to visit. You will, of course, be sharing the beaches with college students, as Port Aransas is a popular Spring Break destination, but it doesn’t get as crazy as it does in Florida or California, especially as the majority of visitors are families celebrating the spring breaks of their own kiddos.

Texas SandFest, occurring April 17-19 in 2026, is one of our favorite annual festivals, offering a display of sand sculptures that will leave you in awe while also offering lessons so you and your family can build your own! The water is warmer now, and you may find yourself walking barefoot as the sun sets, feeling the waves curl around your ankles as you do, and you may even begin swimming, especially if you hail from colder parts of the world.

If you are here for a family vacation, MacDaddy’s Family Kitchen, located at 118 Beach Street, may be your favorite place to eat, and fishing may be one of your favorite spring adventures.

Summer in Port Aransas

Tourist season is in full swing in the summer months, and as the mercury rises, you may find yourself spending more time splashing in pools and the Gulf. Parasailing is a fun way to explore the coastline, and the Deep Sea Roundup, Texas’ oldest fishing tournament (held July 10-13 in 2026), may convince you that you should give fishing a shot, hoping to win the big prize. You may also want to come earlier, celebrating America’s 250th birthday with a fireworks extravaganza that really will make you feel proud to be an American.

Plan a visit to Trout Street Bar & Grill, 104 W Cotter Avenue, which offers a seafood menu and views of the harbor that will make you never want to leave. Shopping for souvenirs is a popular tourist activity, especially as you can cool off in the air conditioning as you search for treasures. Shops such as Indigo Eclectic and the 3rd Coast Shack will allow you to add to your beach wardrobe.

Fall in Port Aransas

Our little secret we want to share with you is that fall in Port Aransas may be the best time of year! This season features temperatures that are still warm enough for swimming. Beachtober, a festival that lasts the entire month of October, includes a Wooden Boat Festival, a Taco & Margarita Trail, and so much more. This is the most comfortable season for fishing, and Deep Sea Headquarters (440 W Cotter Avenue) can make your deep sea fishing dreams come true.

When you are celebrating a special occasion, Tortuga’s Saltwater Grill (429 N Alister Street) will make the occasion even more special, and if you are here for a fall holiday, they often provide holiday meals that will make your resident cook happy to be given the day off! Top Memorial Day Events in Port Aransas

Yes, a beach day is in your future, but did you know that bonfires are permitted as well? You’ve watched the movies for years now, movies in which beachgoers whoop it up while gathered around a bonfire in the sand, and now it is your turn to experience that ultimate adventure. There are rules, of course, with the most important being that fires should be no larger than 3×3 feet, and when your bonfire event has come to a conclusion, you must ensure the fire is completely extinguished and that you have filled in the hole you made to hold that fire. Other than that, your bonfire on the beach can include a nighttime picnic, sips of your favorite beverages, music, and some extra cuddling time with your favorite traveling partner!

The 28th Annual Rockport Festival of Wine & Food, May 24th from 1 PM Until 11 PM

This next event involves a road and boat trip in addition to delicious foods and silky wines, and as you make your way to the town of Rockport, located just 18 miles away from Port Aransas. Held on the Texas Maritime Museum grounds at 1202 Navigation Circle, there’s many reasons this festival has returned every year for 28 years and those reasons all involve tastebuds! It features over 75 wines and craft beers, food served by some of the best chefs in the area, a large selection of vendors selling all manner of merch, and because it isn’t a party without something to sing or dance to, live music that will make it impossible to stay in your seat! Tickets range in cost from $25 to $1000, with general admission including a souvenir wine glass and the $1000 ticket being good for up to eight attendees while including the souvenir wine glass, five wine/beer tastings, reserved seating in VIP seating area (you know, front row, stage center), access to an air conditioned lounge, photo ops with the band, three drink tickets from the VIP bar, and more. The list goes on and on, and we’re betting that $1000 ticket is starting to look pretty good right about now!

Memorial Day Events in Port Aransas

Port A Beach Dash, Horace Caldwell Pier, May 24th

Not everyone thinks that a run on the beach is a great way to celebrate a holiday (for example, if you catch us running, you should run too, because obviously, something is chasing us!) but just as no two snowflakes are alike, no two travelers are alike and the Port A Beach Dash 5K has become one of the most popular holiday weekend events! Registration on run day begins at 6:45 and this chip timed event will offer prizes for runners in groups divided by age and sex, ensuring that everyone has a fair chance of winning. Register by May 4 to get a free tee shirt and a $10 discount on entrance fee ($55 vs $65 on day of the race), and because this is a morning event, you can still finish the race and make it to the Rockport Food & Wine Festival, a nice reward for starting out the day doing something healthy.
