As you start making plans for a Gulf vacation in Galveston, you may be wondering what the difference is between Port Aransas and Galveston. Both are beach towns in Texas, barrier island towns that are located on the Gulf, and both sound like they would be a blast to visit, but there are some key differences, differences that can change the way your vacation looks. Today, we at La Mirage are going to take you on a journey of beach days and comfortable nights, showing you the differences between the two towns and offering a peek inside our exciting and comfortable vacation retreats. One primary difference: You won’t be able to stay in our amazing sanctuaries if you choose Galveston!
Plan Your Next Gulf Vacation In Galveston
It takes all kinds of people to make up this wild and crazy world we live in, but underneath it all, there may be just two major differences. One half of the population craves peace, quiet, and serenity from their vacation experiences, needing to take a step back from the hustle and bustle and rebuild their energy stores. The other half? These people and fun lovers feel happiest when they are surrounded by people, when the music is playing loudest, and the drinks are bottomless, avoiding peace and quiet like a bad cold. And while Galveston is destined to be a perfect vacation experience for the rowdy bunch, you, dear traveler, will prefer the slower and quieter road that leads you straight to Port Aransas and the doorstep of one of our La Mirage retreats. Peaceful, serene, and lacking the crowds of Galveston, more of a party town, your stay with us in Port Aransas will fill all your energy coffers and bring you back to real life, feeling ready to face whatever the world has to throw at you.
You Can’t Visit Texas Sandfest in Galveston
The Texas Sandfest, held in April in Port Aransas, is the largest sand sculpture competition in the nation, and as the world’s best sand sculptors come together to create the piece that will win the big prize. Offering the most beautiful sculptures you have ever seen, their temporary nature perhaps adding to their charms, Texas Sandfest features three days of exhibitions, music, food, sculptures, and even classes that will help build your own sand sculpture skills, you won’t find this wonderful event in Galveston. And although we suppose you could stay in Galveston and drive the four-plus hours here and back to experience Sandfest yourself, wouldn’t you rather spend the day soaking in the sun and the stunning beauty of the sculptures, and then, with just a short drive, you can be relaxing in the air-conditioned coolness of our vacation sanctuaries?
Naturally Beautiful
Another major difference between the two cities is the way people have fun in each. Galveston offers a long history, elegant shops, and vibrant restaurants and all of those things tend to be the places that travelers explore, but in Port Aransas, it is the natural attractions that will draw you close. Fishing off the jetties, reeling in black drum and mahi-mahi, worshipping the sun and sea on pristine beaches at the Mustang Island State Park, and watching the dolphins frolic from aboard the Scarlett Lady when you take their Scarlett Lady Tours. Birdwatchers will want to visit the Leonabelle Turnbull Birding Center, exploring the skies as you walk around the boardwalk, occasionally looking down as you hunt for Boots the alligator, a local resident who makes his home at the center. (Don’t worry, you will be safe; he knows his boundaries, and the human boundaries are easy to stay within.) All of these natural adventures will be the ones that your kids talk about when they return home, especially if they did get to see Boots the alligator!
