September still runs warm and a little humid, closer to summer than fall, but by October, the mornings start to cool off, and the wind shifts out of the north on a semi-regular basis. Cold fronts do pass through starting in October, so pack for both warm afternoons and cooler evenings on the same trip.

October is widely considered one of the strongest fishing months in Port Aransas, driven by the bull redfish run near the jetties as large redfish gather for their spawning migration. Flounder stage for their fall run through the channels around the same time, and speckled trout stay active as water temperatures start to drop. Cooler mornings and thinner crowds only make the whole thing more enjoyable.
Tournament Season
Fall brings some of the biggest names in competitive fishing to the island. The Yamaha Bassmaster Redfish Cup Championship returns to Port Aransas this year, and even if you are not competing, watching a professional weigh-in is a solid way to spend an afternoon during a Port Aransas weekend getaway.

Exploring the Island
